SJC Adds Soccer Pitch To Capital Works Schedule

Tuesday 27 August, 2024

Plans to commence works on an MCG-sized football oval at St Joseph’s College Kildare Campus later this term have taken an exciting turn.

The school has announced it will commence work on a brand new soccer pitch at the same time, which will be located adjacent to the football oval.

St Joseph’s College Principal Anne Marie Cairns said works on both ovals would get under way in the coming weeks, and be fully operational by the end of Term 1, 2025.

“We have found ourselves in an enviable position of being able to make a start on both the football oval and soccer pitch this term which is a cause for great excitement,” Ms Cairns said.

“We have a huge contingent of AFL and soccer loving students in our College community, both male and female, and we know this development will be very warmly received by our students, staff and families.

“Our undercover basketball and netball courts will also open later this term, and Stage 3 works will commence next year on our indoor Multipurpose Learning Centre which will accommodate two additional state of the art basketball/netball courts.”

Ms Cairns said progress on sporting facilities at the new campus was perfectly timed, with the College’s flagship School of Excellence launching in 2025, which included the school’s very first Sports Academy.

She said it was an exciting time to be a student, staff member, parent and guardian at St Joseph’s College.

“At St Joseph’s College we are committed to not only educating our students in the best possible way, but also to whole person growth, through participation in activities that support their interests and passions,” Ms Cairns said.

“By providing students with greater opportunities to explore and pursue their passions, we place ourselves in the best position of ensuring our College remains a place of deep learning, endeavour and enrichment.”

Ms Cairns said the MCG-sized football oval and state-of-the-art soccer pitch would rival any junior sports facilities in the region. She said each oval would have a premium turf surface, drainage system, and be cared for by a professional maintenance team.

Works are expected to start on the ovals in September this year.
