Stage 2 capital works at St Joseph’s College Kildare Campus have been completed and the new specialist and learning buildings open to students today.
The works commenced in June last year and comprise a technology building, science classrooms, food classrooms, art spaces, performance areas, canteen, new general learning space and additional learning enhancement provision.
St Joseph’s College Principal Anne Marie Cairns expressed pride and excitement as staff and students occupied the impressive new buildings for the first time today.
“This is another exciting step forward for our College and wider community as we continue to expand our offerings as a multi-campus school,” Ms Cairns said.
“Our ongoing building works represent our dedication to providing a comprehensive and forward-thinking Catholic education for families in the Echuca Moama region that prepares students for success in an ever changing world.”
Kildare Campus is situated on 80 acres of greenfield land on Mt Terrick Rd in Echuca’s west, a short drive from the existing Brigidine Campus on Dickson Street in the CBD.
Stage 1 building works first began on the second campus in November 2021, and the first intake of Year 7 students commenced on the site in July 2023.
This year the campus accommodates Year 7 & 8 students, and from 2025 Year 7-9 students will be based onsite.
Outdoors, the campus features two soon-to-be covered state-of-the-art multipurpose sports courts (basketball/netball), outdoor exercise equipment, a softfall sports area, green spaces for passive recreation, landscaping, seating, bus zones and car parks.
Works on an AFL-sized football oval will commence later this year with a view to the oval being fully
functional from Term 1, 2025. The oval will be the size of the MCG, irrigated and fully fenced.
Kildare Campus Director Jarrod O’Brien said it was an exciting time for the College, and staff and students were thrilled with the new and innovative facilities included in Stage 2.
“We are blessed at Kildare Campus with wide open spaces and natural light-filled learning environments for learners to explore, be inspired, release energy and feel comfortable and at ease,” Mr O’Brien said.
“These new specialist learning areas for science, technology, foods and the arts certainly bring the wow factor, and our staff, students and visiting families have been blown away by them.”
Stage 3 capital works will begin at the campus in 2025 and include a multipurpose learning centre with two indoor basketball courts, and space for performing arts, sport and physical education, community use and teacher planning.
